Senegal is a French-speaking country located on the westernmost point of the continent. The population is 91% Muslim, while only 6% are Christian believers. The Senegalese struggle with treatable health problems (STDs, parasites, etc.) and a lack of education and literacy. The good news is that there are seven translations of the New Testament in native languages. There are 17 more translations underway, as well as a translation of the Old Testament into Wolof. There are currently only seven ordained United Methodist pastors in a country that is home to almost 13 million people. We are currently linking hearts with two pastors in this country: Valentin Bayemon Iloga and Jean Pierre Ndour. Valentin Bayemon Iloga is currently serving as a United Methodist minister in the town of Thies, and he also works with World Vision International. Jean Pierre Ndour is also a United Methodist minister in Mbour, Senegal.
